The Avery scale business was established in Birmingham in 1731. Avery acquired Soho Foundry from James Watt & Co in 1896. Became part of the General Electric Company (GEC now Marconi plc) in 1979, successfully making the transition from mechanical to electronics based weighing technologies. 2000 merged with Weigh-Tronix to further strengthen the Avery position as the UK's number one weighing equipment supplier. Became part of ITW, an $18bn global technology group in September 2007, after being impressed by its strong global brand reputation and high European market share. Other group companies include Hobart, Fosters and Peerless. Now totally focused on developing in-store weighing solutions for fresh food counters and pre-packing departments.
